Sorry for continuing the hijacking but I had to share this horror example.
In a former company where I worked we 'tried' outsourcing our modelling work to some guys in India.
Here's an image of the quality we received: http://www.coindrop.dk/spiludvikling/so ... urcing.jpg

Left corner: What we received.
Right corner: Reference image.
Lower middle: My corrections (I spend 2 minutes editing the proportions of the 3d model).

We later found very competent people in Macedonia :)

Then I'll also butt in!
Believe it or not but it can also happen in the other end of the scale, having someone believe his work is too good for a project...
Once we hired one of the ship designers from the Gundam series as an concept artist, then all of a sudden he wouldn't allow us to use his concept's because what might had been a concept for a PS4 game had we scalled down to a tablet game...
By that point I had already made a couple of spaceships which we now aren't allowed to use commercially....

Hmm you didn't check any prior work from this person/company before you decided to hire him??
also to be fair how much did you pay for that kind of work? In most cases you get the level of quality you paid for ;)

zelsphere - I don't know any details regarding prior work or salary, I was just to send them some references so we could make a 'test-case'.
As I recall we went through one more iteration and then stopped working with them.
