Developing Quality Assurance in the Danish Games Industry
IGDA evening meeting 24th April 2008 at 19.00
QA in the games industry is evolving rapidly these years, with new methods
and approaches being brought forward regularly by companies here and
abroad.
Traditionally, a variety of playtesting practices have been the primary
means to test games, and the main purpose to locate bugs or technical
issues; however, modern game testing methods aim at going beyond bug
hunting and evaluate game design during the entire game development cycle,
provide feedback on character designs, analyse gameplay patterns and much
more.
The key example of this development is the work of Microsoft Game Labs
with Bungee on Halo3 has broken new ground on what can be accomplished
with methodological game testing, and e.g. Bioware has integrated game
metrics in their QA-processes. Usability methods are appearing to break
new ground, but it is also clear that these methods are rooted in the
traditional software industry and therefore needs to be adapted to the
gaming situation.
The question meeting developers is how these new methods can be utilized,
and at what stages in the game design and -development cycle. Is metrics
only of interest to MMOGs post-launch or any game? Should testing wait
until the alpha-tage or integrate early-phase consumer studies?
The meeting will focus on how QA is conducted in Danish companies as well
as aborad, and bring in perspectives for the future. Sofie Mann of 3rd
Person; Claus Petersen from Deadline Games and Janus Sørensen from IO
Interactive will introduce how their companies manage the QA-situation and
where they see this rapidly evolving area going.
The presentations will be followed by an open roundtable and discussion.
Beer, soft drinks and snacks will be served courtesy of IGDA Denmark and
the IT University Center for Computer Games Research.
Well met!

Spørgeskema
Maz Spork er ved at lave en afhandling om innovation i spilbranchen. Til den lejlighed har vi lovet lidt hjælp med et spørgeskema. Det tager kun 5 minutter . Her er forklaringen fra Maz.
-----
fem minutter!
