Podcast time.. the story of Tactile Games.

Asbjoern Malte Soendergaard — Games company builder story
In this week’s podcast episode, I’m talking with Asbjoern Malte Soendergaard, the founder and CEO of Tactile Games, who are based out of Copenhagen, Denmark, and are the makers of the hit game Lily’s Garden.

In this discussion, we talk about how company culture has developed at Tactile over the years, how new projects get started, and what kind of a role does celebrating success and failure play at Tactile.

A teaser for Flashback 2 has landed!

For people who remember the original Flashback from 1992 that launched in the wake of the genre defining cinematic platformer Another World from 1991. Flashback was really cool at the time and sold a ton of copies.

Not sure I'm sold on this particular instance juuuust yet. These things are hard to do!
An absolutely stunning playable demo might help a lot.
The 2013 version from Ubisoft did not land well. So let's hope they have learned a lesson or two.
Visually I might see it working if it was closer to the sharp and stylized aesthics of INSIDE and the upcoming Somerville. It does look a bit on the generic side judging from the sparse and 'not too easy too make out' footage in the teaser. Or just go pure pixel art taken to the next level.

Flashback 2 teaser. Releasing on most formats at some point.

Technically speaking Flashback already has a sequel! The early 3rd person adventure/shooter Fade to Black. (1995)

The orginal Flashback can still hold it's own in pixel art. :)

Oh man!.. why not just watch some Another World longplay. :D Even though it was only related in inspiration for the Flashback games.
It's still bad ass! Looooove the intro! <3
The "enhanced" Anniversary Edition looked a bit iffy for my taste though. Why is it always like this! Getting some art intern to redraw things or whatever. Looking at you Monkey Island. Luckily the original art an be swapped in, in both cases.
Another World also has a sequel. Heart of the Alien.. never played it as it was a Sega CD exclusive.. What a terrible idea to begin with. Oh well.

Our former basement co-dwellers Triband (Or is it Dualband now?!) ;) who moved just down a few numbers in the block in Gothersgade to fancier offices that now includes a golden horse, has finally announced their upcoming VR title!

It's called What The Bat? And it's coming to Steam and Quest 2 later in 2022.

What The Bat? Trailer here:

Adding: My projections are that this game will, in VR relative terms, be a great success.
And Triband has probably already secured a favorable deal with Feta a long time ago if I know them well?!

Adding: Quest 2 has sold around 15 million units by the way. The most successful VR headset to date! Of cause the really important thing is retention and attachment rate. VR can lure in a lot of people at the right price and quality. But can also easily end up as a dust collecting device on the shelf. But there certainly are a real community out there that will grow over time as devices increases in quality and VR game libraries grows.
One thing I discovered when playing around with some VR prototyping is that stand up and flailing around is not something you really want to do too much. Just sitting in your couch and VR chilling is just where you land after a while. :)
Couch VR is the future I'm tellen ya!

Duke Nukem the movie might be a thing in a while.
The Cobra Kai creators are producing. (Loved especially the first season)
So that might actually work out!
Only time will tell.
Dosed with a ton of over the top humor, lots of guns+alien gore and a strong human story. I could see it working. Besides all the other million pieces that has to align just right.

So as a kid of 80'ies I loved Willow the movie starring the dwarftacular Warwick Davis!
Ok maybe not to a Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Ghostbusters level. But it was pretty cool!

Now there is a series coming up... not really sure it will be something. Looks a bit on the B side of things. But I guess I'll do a sample sooner or later. Crossing fingers it will be worthwhile. Adding: (Buuuut probably NOT! Disney has a clear track record of mostly destruction in the modern era across their franchises, so not getting my hopes too high)

There was also an arcade and NES game. I played neither.. just remember seeing the arcade screenshots in a magazine and it looked frekking amazing!! But never got to play it.. arcades was rare in Slangerup. :_( There is still a hole in my soul.

NES version is more like poor mans Zelda.
