And today is release day of Time on Frog Island by DK Half Past Yellow. (Lots of old colleages on the team.. if not 80-90%?) :)
Grats on the release!

A bit too early to tell on the reception. The fetch quest nature of the game does get a few comments on the way.
So just be prepared (Play the Prologue to make your own decision) for that if you take a dive on Frog Island. Personally I got the same feeling playing the Prologue. Super charming world and characters.. but the fetch quest concept of the game was not for me personally.

Mage and Monsters by solodev Lasse Zacho Malver now has a playable demo in itch.
Lasse previously did Calturin on Steam

Update: Nice little game by the way! :) Got to level 17 on my first play. Give it a spin!
The game is close to Mini Warriors in concept. But it's has rogue runs and using the ever popular card-choice upgrades.

A look at the 'Gigaya' project Unity WAS developing before the firing round. A lot of the positions let go was related to this project.

Sad it has to go.. it would be very health for Unity to have projects like this where Unity developers get to use their own engine on an actual project while making tools and things better overall hopefully. (And yes also expensive)

Adding: also a very unfortuante signal to send to developers. It's was just too expensive and time consuming to ship a game made in their own engine basically. 😬

Well.. that was no to be! The project looked pretty neat! Props to the team!




Also "EA John" tried to apolozie for his states on people not using analytics to optimize monetization as being 'fucking idiots'.

Hmmm... He keeps stepping in it! And will probaly continue to do so. It hurts Unity everytime.. Perhaps the board should consider other CEO options looking to the future. But realistically that's probably not going to happen.

Ok one thing is happening. Bolverk Games in teasing their upcoming VR game 'Genotype'
A game about solving puzzles, hacking and about encoutering alien creatues and even designing and printing your own.
About three months ago, some significant papers were signed and an ambitious brand-new VR sci-fi game became a reality. This prompted a lot of people to get busy. Game designers got to work. Programmers wrote code. Musicians began composing. Nerds in the marketing department produced long, boring documents. An author was abducted. Artists expressed themselves to their hearts’ content.

More game IP makes it to passive entertainment. This time it's Tekken!

Never played it really.. maybe short glimpses here and there. But judging with limited insight in the IP it actually looks pretty decent! Anime looks like a great fit.

DK Startup spotting time!
This time it's Silkroad Studios (No affilation with the now closed dark web site as far as I know) ;)
Founded in 2021.

They seem to have gotten some DFI funding for a rather ambitious first project Foxtale.
I like ambition in startups! :) But it does sound like a very big bite to chew by newcomers. DFI funding will obviously be far from enough. But hopefully enough to get them to get to some sort of presentable state to attract further funding.
They also have a side work-for-hire business set up in Silkroad Labs. So hopefully that can pay the bills and not get too distracted by B2B projects from their main game. This is a delicate balance but certainly possible.
Sometimes things starts with big dreams (if not always) and then finds a space where it can thrive.
Let's hope they find their way and Foxtale will get fully realised! All the best to the new studio! :)

Unrelated, 15 games are leaving the service. >I don't know the contract<. But I might assume there is an exit clause if things doesn't make sense for the developers!?

All in all.. in this current date and age it doesn't point to that Apple Arcade is a super viable option. Sadly so.. I would have been nice to see mobile premium games have somewhere to florish. Datadriven ad spamming F2P (hyper) casual games will continue to dominate the mobile industry completely.

Triband had a lucky fit with What the Golf with the launch of the service.

But now it certainly seems like the party is over and somebody has to clean up.

First gen product could hit the market in less than 5 years.

A DK (Greenland) super rare release back from 2020 (I totally missed) is Tupilak Invasion developed by Tupilak Gaming (Ulrik Motzfeldt-Skovgaard) in Sisimiut. We don't see a lot of games developed in Greenland.. perhaps even the first I have spotted?1 :)

A big late grats on the release! :D

Tupilak Invasion is lane shooter in the same vein as Plant vs. Zombie. But with Greenlandish tupilaks as enemies and a bit different mechanics like manual reloads.

New DK games company annoucement! (Well sorta low key public LinkedIN annoucement anyways). I guess the full studio shabang will come at a later stage.

THQ Nordic owned Campfire Cabal is now a reality and they are working on a new RPG project for PC/Consoles.

There isn't much too public information available yet.
But I have been doing some extrapolation (based on very limited information from another public source), it sounds like it could be a neat project! I will refrain from analysis of their project in this thread. But 'I think' have a pretty good notion of what they are working on.

And yes.. it's still a VERY good idea to start looking into Unreal. More unannounced companies/projects are incoming. There seem to be a rather tectonic shift happening in the DK industry as we speak. Though Unity will remain king of smaller mobile, web and indie projects for the forseeable future.

Lots of progress in OTOY's Sculpton software. Still semi early days.
It remains to be seen if they can take some actual marketshare from all the other sculpting applications.
