TranslationI just wanted to hear what you think my chances are, for a job in the gaming industry. Perhaps programming games for hand-held consoles or phones?
I have a bachelor/engineering degree in electronics, but have specialised in embedded software, and that is what have been employed as for the last 2 years now. So I am used to writing time critical and memory optimized code. In the last ½-1 year one of my other tasks has been to develop a few office applications, so OOP is no stranger to me.
I have always been passionated about gaming, and really likes a quality game.
Recently I have started to make some simple XNA games, nothing original at all, but just something simple to start learning the framework. (Yes I have made another snake game *sigh* ) and these small games has really reignited the idea of, that I one day could be a game programmer.
So while we are at it, I need some tips:
-When you come up with a new idea, in what application(s) do you track/manage/sketch these ideas? Right now I using pen and paper...
-Other tools you could recommend for the design development phase? Perhaps for fast prototyping?
A few of my programming competencies:
-Around two years experience with ANSI-C programming
-A good potion experience writing assembler for the x86 and the PowerPC architecture
-½-1 year work-experience in C#
-Once I made an HTML parser in java
and some minor cell phone applications. (everything counts right? )I find it very fascinating to learn a new programming language, and I am always striving to improve my skills.
