Programmer/Artist looking for work

Unread post by Cruiser18 » 09 Dec 2014, 17:15

I was given permission by the site admin to post a general job seek, so here it is. ;)

My name is Christian Sunesen and I'm looking for a paid position in relation to games that involves programming, artistry or a mix of both.

I have completed my "Master of Science & IT in Games" degree as a programmer at the IT University of Copenhagen in the summer of 2014 and I'm now looking for a place to put my skills to use in making the games of the future, and hopefully make some cool games for the next generation to enjoy. ;)

Education
My formal education is:
- A Master degree of Science and IT in Games from the IT University of Copenhagen
- A Bachelor in Web Development from KEA (Copenhagen school of design & technology)
- A Multimedia Designer education from Copenhagen North in Lyngby.

I have also studied in Japan and in Silicon Valley in the US.

As a programmer, especially within games, I have mainly had contact with the Unity3D engine and I am fairly comfortable with working with it and understands a good deal of its quirks and limitations, although I also have a good deal of knowledge with Unreal engine 4 and adobe Flash. I am mainly a gameplay programmer, but I am also knowledgeable in areas such as general game engine workings and artificial intelligence development.
Artificial intelligence in particular allows me to use areas such as:
- Pathfinding
- State machines
- Behavior trees
- Goal-oriented AI's
- Monte Carlo algorithms

I am proficient in using languages such as C#, Java, C++ and Actionscript. As an educated Web Developer I am also able to use more "web oriented" languages like Javascript/Jquery, PHP, MySQL and HTML/CSS as well as some knowledge of scripting languages such as LUA and Python.

Professional Experience
I spent a good 9 months working with Interceptor Entertainment here in Denmark with their remake of the classic "Rise of the triads" where I made the launcher for the game, as well as launchers for their throwback packs of classic games mainly using C#.
Just in case noone remembers what Rise of the triads is about:

While not quite as games relevant, I've also worked for:
- Nykredit A/S <- Making E-learning modules
- BetterCollective A/S <- Building web-shops
- COWI <- Making websites

Programming examples
Here's a few examples of programming projects I've been part of, although some of it is school stuff.

One of the first projects, a simple platformer game revolving around a senile old man who relives his memories, where I was part of the 2-man team doing the programming.

Second project was an attempt at making a moody game, where the player is exploring an old hotel as a down-on-his-luck journalist. Again, my role in this project was programming.

3rd example is my own little project where I spent a few days remaking the old game “Asteroids” in Unity. In this I did the entire programming as well as all the art assets.

*edit*
Made the asteroids game all over again using Unreal Engine 4:

A simple, yet interesting example. It's a spinning cube made in C++ where I basically had to teach to computer the notions of what a camera is, what 3D space is, what a cube is and how to perceive a perspective view of the cube from the camera and project it onto a 2D surface (the computer screen). Basically the rough beginnings of a 3D engine.

Here's a link to the actual program in a .rar file if you want to see it move in person (1-9 on keyboard affects spin rate).

And also finally screencaps of two of the launchers I made for Interceptor Entertainment. The actual graphics was made by a talented guy named Hans Kleinenberg, I then used the photoshop files to cut apart the graphics and put them together along with the software logic using XAML and WPF with C#.

Artistry
While I don't hold an official degree in art, I have been taught in subjects such as game design, concept design, video game graphics, the entire 3D modeling pipeline, rigging and animation. Much of my drawing comes from using my spare time to draw for over 10 years now. I am fully proficient in the use of most of the Adobe package, including Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator and After-effects.

Artistry examples
Here's a handful of examples of my more artistic side. First some color pieces:

An character concept from a game:

A color painting of Mass Effect's Mordin Solus. Reference was used of course.

About me
I consider myself to be hardworking, but flexible. I'm never afraid to learn a new concept or new technology if required, and I strive to deliver the best I have on time. I'm very experienced working by myself and in teams, especially with teams consisting of people from all around the world. My toolbox of things I can do is kinda large and might lack a little more focus, but it also allows me to draw on a wide area of knowledge, giving me the methodological perspectives of a programmer as well as the creative thinking and unrestrained viewpoint of an artist and being able to use these fields in tandem is a big advantage for me.

In private, I live by myself in Allerød in northern sealand, Denmark, where I spend my time mucking around with videogames, both playing them and making them, as well as different artistic endeavors, but you will from time to time also find me down at the local gym giving the treadmill some exercise.

I hope you found this post interesting. If you have any questions or comments to me or in regards to this post or otherwise just wish to get a hold of me, you can contact me by phone or mail:

Remade the asteroids game once again, just using the Unreal 4 engine.
