Position summary
Reporting to the CTO the system administrator will join our Production Operation team and provide tier 1 support for the tools and systems that hold up our Virtual World Mingoville. The Production Operations team will provide 24x7 monitoring, diagnosis, solving, and triage of issues related to the Mingoville platform. You will be involved in the operational strategy decision making. We currently have servers placed in China, Vietnam, Denmark and Germany. Lately we have moved our MMO platform over to Amazon EC2 in order to scale when needed. Our multiplayer game / virtual world will be launched in May 2009. You will work closely with our development team and it’s a plus if you have some backend knowledge.

Responsibilities:
o Provide real time response to system outages and other issues raised by monitoring our platform and user behavior.
o Work on the command-line, with web tools and in-world to investigate and solve issues
o Communicate with engineering and support teams to escalate issues and provide updates to the Mingoville community
o Upload new releases from testing environment to operational environment
o Plan and organize hardware, traffic, CPU, RAM and hard disk requirements
o Oversees any requirements for the upgrade and/or replacement of technology solutions.

Qualifications:
o B.S. degree in Computer Science or related, Masters preferred
o 3+ years of Linux System Administration experience
o Experience with administering remote servers providing a customer-facing production service
o Working experience with Apache, Spring, Hibernate and webservices
o Ability to learn quickly – virtual worlds are complex and a good understanding of those complexities is essential
o Large-scale system administration, MySQL, Web development and network engineering experience
o Systems programming/debugging experience
o Some scripting/ programming ability, in at least one language –preferable Java
o If you have any virtual world experience please mention that in your application (Second Life, World of WarCraft, Habbo Hotel, etc.)
o Experience with Amazon Elastic Computing, Terracotta, performance and load balancing a plus
o Strong communication skills
o Experience working with a creative staff
