War of Rights - Authentic civil war fps
War of Rights - Authentic civil war fps
This thread is created in order to be able to show you the latest updates of the project. We are currently working towards launching a crowdfunding campaign.
Here's an introduction to the game:
War of Rights is a multiplayer game set during the perilous days of the American Civil War, in the Maryland Campaign of September, 1862. Campfire Games is devoted to presenting the gruesome and glorious elements of the period, while maintaining the highest level of historical accuracy and realism as is possible with the wonders of CRYENGINE.
Players in the game will be able to play on multiple battlefields of the campaign, from the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers where the Siege of Harper's Ferry took place, to the ridgelines of South Mountain, and to the meandering waters of Antietam Creek at the Battle of Antietam. Additionally, players will also be able to choose from a list of regiments that fought in each battle as well as what rank to fight as, whether they want to slog it out as a lowly private, or if you want to orchestrate the carnage and mayhem as a major general.
Uniforms and bodily features will all be customizable for other players to see as you march and fight in the lines of battle according to the tactics of the period. As a General, you will operate in your headquarters equiped with a map of the battlefield and constantly receiving reports of friendly and enemy positions. Send out new orders to the regiments to move forward, or fall back - all in real time. The orders will move down the chain of command, to the Colonels, Majors, down to the Captains in charge of the individual regiments, all of whom have the option to follow the orders of their trusted commander, or rebel against his wishes and fight as you see fit.
Each map contains a period reconstruction of the buildings, farms, forests, roads & rocks that existed so players can fight through the streets of Harper's Ferry, in the wooded heights of Fox's Gap at South Mountain, or in the wheatfields and Bloody Lanes of Antietam. Players can feel the whiz of deadly shot and shell fly by their bodies, or hit their comrades or themselves as they scream in a bloody hail from their wounds. Limbs will fly and blood will be spilt once again as Campfire Games brings the fighting of the Civil War right to the player's computer screen!
Will you heed the Union call against the traitors? Or will you fight to defend your family and livelyhood with the Confederacy? You decide!
Here's a few recently released ingame screenshots from the battle of Antietam as well as a bit of background info:
The retreat of the Louisiana Brigade
When the Union infantry rushed towards Miller's Cornfield, they drove the Louisiana Brigade back to the West Woods. Along that brigade was the famous 1st Louisiana Infantry, which had a company of Hay's Wheat Tigers attached.
When they finally reached the Hagerstown Pike, the soldiers faced each other across the chest-high rail fences that lined along the road and traded volleys at point blank range. Two regiments of Union sharpshooters joined in the fight and poured a heavy fire into the left flank, while a battery of cannons unlimbered 75 yards from the road and raked the Tigers’ line.
In less than half an hour, both Louisiana brigades had been shattered.
Two days after this slaughter took place, Alexander Gardner began taking his battlefield photographs and made the most famous photo of the war, displaying the casualties of this fight.
Reinforcements for the Sunken road
While the Confederates got heavily attacked at the Sunken Road, Brigadier General Wright's brigade got the order to send fresh reinforcements.
The 44th Alabama and the 3rd Georgia formed at Gen. Longstreet's headquarter at Piper Farm and dressed their battle lines. In addition, skirmishers were sent out infront of the main line to fight the enemy pickets.
It was during this advance, when soldiers of Wright's brigade saw General Longstreet himself, helping to shoot a 12lb Napoleon near the Apple Orchard.
Fight at the East Woods
The 2nd Massachusetts Infantry, together with the attached men of Collis' Independent Company - the "Zouaves d'Afrique" - fighting confederates near Millers Cornfield.

It looks better and better every time. The real question is when can we try it?

Thanks. The goal of the crowdfunding campaign is to be able to start paying our devs so we can get a more focused development pace going on. Free work is great being free and all, but it certainly has its downsides too in terms of reliability and time available.Jesper Kondrup wrote:It looks better and better every time. Have you guys considered (may be an oblivious question) to reach out to investores in the states? This game must be able to catch some traction there?

Re: War of Rights - Authentic civil war fps
We haven't actively done so yet although we have received a few offers. We've just recently been able to find programmers with past CRYENGINE experience willing to work for free on a spare time basis so core game mechanics are still being implemented.Instawin wrote:Have you guys considered (may be an oblivious question) to reach out to investores in the states? Thank you for the kind words guys!

Burnside Bridge
While the union attacks concentrated on the northern flank and center of the battlefield, the southern flank was silent for a long while.
At about 10:00 AM, General Burnside tried to cross the Antietam at the Rohrbach's Bridge, which was later known as the Burnside Bridge. Two union advances were pushed back by 400 confederates - the 2nd and 20th Georgia regiment, under the command of General Toombs.
The third charge to take the bridge was at 12:30 PM. It was led by the 51st New York and the 51st Pennsylvania, who, with adequate artillery support and a promise that a recently canceled whiskey ration would be restored, if they were successfull, took the bridge after a gallant charge.
The tough Georgians had cost the Federals more than 500 casualties, giving up fewer than 160 themselves. They had stalled Burnside's assault on the southern flank for more than three hours.

September 17th, 1862 - 153rd anniversary of the Battle
The Dunker Church
By mid-morning on September 17, 1862, the flower of the Union Army of the Potomac, Major General Joseph Hooker’s I Corps, lay shattered in a 40-acre cornfield northeast of Sharpsburg, Maryland.
By the same time, Brig. Gen. George Greene's 2nd Division got orders to march toward the Hagerstown Pike. Their objective: A small church near the West Woods.
Brig. Gen. J.B. Kershaw’s South Carolina brigade of Walker’s division, who were now making their appearance on the field south of that church, tried to hold that ground at all costs.
As the 8th, 7th and 3rd South Carolina regiments charged toward Greene’s division, both sides met at the Dunker Church and a dramatic close combat appeared.
The smoke of the battle limited the view, their object was as close as 20 yards away. Greene’s men had a difficult time making out to the church, which lay infront of them, though it was obvious that a large body of Confederates had secreted themselves among the trees and wood that surrounded the little church.
The fighting around the West Woods and at the Dunker Church, were one of the most intense fightings during that day.
Bloodiest Day in american history
In one day more then 3.600 men were killed, 19.000 were wounded and captured.
The Battle of Antietam remains the bloodiest single-day in all of American history - worse than Pearl Harbor, D-Day or 9/11.

Meget god start i har fået, på den første dag.
Har i spammet på div. amerikanske "reinactment forums"?
-der antager jeg at i har en potentiel målgruppe (de er flere end man tror).
Også liveroleplay fora, kunne være oplagt, grundet FPS og "be part of the horde" fokusset.

Over 1.100 kommentarer - det tegner godt.
Glæder mig til at se, hvad I bruger pengene til

Som forventet! Tillykke! ding ding!
Der plejer altid at være et end rush hvis projektet har nok traction. Hvilket det på alle måder har.
Good job guys!
Giv jeg selv et treat med North and South.
