Job offer for mini-project (app. 1 week)

Unread post by Aske » 04 Aug 2012, 17:28

Looking for Unity programmer(s)

Offering Money

Bonus You’ll be part of a social enterprise which works to improve educational tools at home and donate all profit to development of the education in Latin America and Africa through IBIS (development organisation).

Task Work with game engines (the example projects from Unity: Bootcamp, Angry Bots and Car Tutorial). Change some graphics and sounds, implement our EduMode-plugin and add various perks to the games, e.g. invisibility, faster car, “rail gun of doom”. Plus more levels for the games if we can find the time.

When As soon as possible.

The Idea
If we compare educational games with traditional games like Fifa and Call of Duty it’s easy to see how far behind the educational games are in terms of graphics, sounds, gameplay and all the other things that make a game great.
Our idea is to use the already great games and add an educational mode to them and we will start with using example projects from the Unity Asset Store. The educational content will consist of a quiz which can contain any topic, e.g. German verbs.
As an example we’ll describe the educational game we want from Bootcamp:
For Monday you need to learn a list of one hundred new German words so you choose the quiz with these when you start the game.
You’re playing a multiplayer game against your friends, who study various topics but play in the same game.
As with any other 3rd person shooter you run around and shoot your enemies. To begin with you only have a simple handgun but you can choose to activate the educational quiz (thereby pausing the game on your computer) in order to gain more ammo, better weapons, more health and various special perks.
In this way the educational goal (to memorise German words) will be a help to achieve the original goal of the game (killing your friends).
Our goal is to motivate the player to use the quiz and learn from it.

If you’re interested then please give a brief description of who you are and what you can do.
The quiz itself is run by a program which I (Aske) am working on, you will be working with games as described in tasks.

I will be working at Aalborg University Copenhagen’s new campus in Sydhavnen and if you join the game development you will be more than welcome to join the office, but there is no requirement regarding physical presence.

For more information on the concept please visit our old site http://www.NameGames.org/introduction the new site (EduMode.com) is under construction.

Write your application to aske@namegames.org
(if you wish to participate voluntary with perhaps smaller tasks, feel free to write as well).

We have arranged partnerships with people and organisations to help the distribution of these games and academic testing, however the first test runs will be kept simple.
