Position: Artist
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Copenhagen K
On-site position with options to work from home❗

Ahoy, fellow miners! 👋
We’re on the hunt for an Artist to join our team!

Who We Are:
Based in the heart of Copenhagen, Ghost Ship Games is a passionate, close-knit studio of 50 gamers. Guided by our “Co-op First” philosophy, we proudly created Deep Rock Galactic, one of Steam’s top 100 games, and we are supported by one of the friendliest player communities.

Our Approach:
At GSG, we embrace a unique way of creating game art, moving away from traditional art pipelines. We prioritize speed, flexibility, and prototyping to elevate gameplay, believing that the best ideas come from rapid iteration. Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do within our team and with our community.

What This Means for You:
We’re not looking for perfect, polished art pieces. Instead, we value experimentation, functional content, and openness to feedback. This means being comfortable with submitting work that’s still in progress, using feedback to adjust, and continuously improving to achieve the best possible results.

Who You Are and What You Will Be Doing:
You are an artist with no less than a few years of experience and a solid understanding of how to make games, especially in indie or sci-fi projects. You thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy tackling challenges, adapt quickly, and maintain a flexible approach.

Additionally, you:
Develop original ideas and create art assets.
Love working with others but can also efficiently organize your own tasks.
Take feedback well and enjoy sharing your ideas.
Comfortably switch between tasks, even if unfinished.
Are a versatile generalist who ensures the project’s art style remains cohesive.
Have a solid understanding of how to model weapons and machinery to create a sense of mechanical functionality.
Skills & Software:
Proficient with 3D modeling software (Maya, Blender, 3DsMax, etc.).

Proficient with a Sculpting software package (Zbrush).

Proficient with 2D software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).

Experience with Unreal Engine or similar software is a plus but not required.

Personality-wise:
You have a genuine passion for your work and easily adapt to new situations. While you thrive as a motivated team player, you’re also comfortable working independently when needed. You embrace a sci-fi/indie style and focus on creating an amazing game, prioritizing creativity over just checking off tasks.

Your Day-to-Day Tasks Will Include:
Collaborate closely with leads, designers, and programmers to align project requirements and artistic direction for environments, characters, and props.

Create original concept art that aligns with creative briefs provided by the design team, ensuring visual consistency and style.

Develop 3D assets based on concept art, translating 2D sketches and ideas into efficient game-ready 3D models.

Iterate on 3D models to incorporate feedback from design, programming, and other team members, ensuring the final assets meet both visual and technical standards.

Adapt to evolving project needs by adjusting art and 3D assets and maintaining quality throughout development.

Provide ongoing support for in-game assets, making necessary tweaks and updates based on testing and performance insights.

Occasionally, setting up 3D assets with simple animations, such as idle and movement cycles, to bring objects and characters to life.

Occasionally, integrate basic particle effects and animations to enhance environmental and character assets, contributing to immersive gameplay experiences.

What We Offer:
Flexible hours with the option to work remotely for two days each month and every Friday.

Competitive salary with an annual bonus.

Strong pension plan.

Health and dental insurance.

Paid parental leave.

Five Weeks of vacation plus five extra days.

Child sick leave.

Spacious office in Gothersgade with lunch and plenty of social shenanigans.

Practical Information:
We’d love to see your professional and personal works in your portfolio. Focus on sci-fi-style art and hard-surface projects. Don’t forget to share your creative process—include some development steps along with your final pieces.

You can expect to receive a small art test after the first round of interviews. It will be a brief task, so please don’t spend more than 30 minutes completing it, and we would expect you to present the results in the second round of interviews.

You must reside in Copenhagen or be within commuting distance to be considered for this position.

Applications are reviewed continuously, so the position will remain open until we find the perfect fit.

Application:
Time is gold, so let’s keep it brief! No cover letter is needed—just focus on your portfolio, application responses, and CV. 😊

Review & Interviews:
Your application will be reviewed by P&C and the art team, followed by 2-3 interview rounds.

The first round is a 30-minute chat with the Art Director and a team member to assess your skills and alignment with our workflow.

The second round, lasting about an hour, includes P&C, the Game Director, and the Art Director, giving us a chance to get to know each other more deeply.

If needed, a third round may be scheduled for further clarification.

We welcome everyone to apply! Your unique background strengthens our crew.

Hi,

Are you looking also for a junior artists or more experienced ones? I'm currently living in Poland but I'm looking for a job and I'm ready for relocation. I've visited Copenhagen two weeks ago for Kind of Art festival and I really liked the city.

Here is a link to my artstation:
