CG Society is shutting down after 2 decades.
That was a good long run! In the end it looks like they were outcompeted by Artstation. A format they later tried to mimic to less success. But good run! Not every website makes it to 20+ years.. Besides spiludvikling.dk

Re: News! Tech! Tools! Talks! Games! And Stuff Worth Sharing!
Another big OUCH in the Danish games industry!!
Rumors saying that 50% of staff at Slipgate Ironworks / 3D Realms will be laid off.
>Locally< it might not be 'that bad' in terms of numbers of layoffs. As the company is known for having a large number international staff working remotely.
But we will see! Guessing it might depend highly on which project people are working on. And the least promising projects might get culled more than others.
Regardless of location it always sucks getting let go! Especially in this climate where a lot of companies has been laying off people around the world.
Finding a job in the industry will be challenging for all. Also starting a business will be extra challenging, more people competing for less money. But I hope we will see some daring startups as a result of this. That's the best I always hope for! And there should be quite a talent pool of good people working there who might take the jump.
Best of luck to everybody affected!
Slipgate Ironworks is officially listed with 55 employees. 3D Reals Entertainment with 13.
Update:
Just summing up 2023 so far.... It's bad!
- Crey - Bankrupt
- Umami - Bankrupt
- Kiloo (Games part) - Closed
- Reto-moto - Closed
- Movie Star Planet - Cut approx. half of staff.
- Campfire Cabal - Significant layoffs. Still sticky situation where the company tries to battle for survival for the immediate future.
- Triple Topping Games - Bankrupt
- Slipgate Ironworks / 3D Realms (Rumored 50% layoffs)
- Tacticle - No big layoff rounds just yet. But seemingly more of a slow paced restructuring of the company

So Biodome Games has now fully revealed their new project in the Chase Ace series with a Steampage.
Chase Ace Sole Survivor
Hehe they teased the title a little while back, heavily obscured, and with a bit of imagination and tracing the teaser image I did figure out the title. Confirmed by Peter Holm at the Spilhuset xmas party last friday.
But awesome! Looking forward to giving the game spin!
Wishlist and such things!
First preview trailer. Has the obscured title at the end.

Sadly another round of layoffs has hit Slipgate Ironworks / 3D Realms.
To quote a former employee. 'There is not a lot of people left'
Really sad to hear!
I hope they will rise again!
And absolutely best of luck to everybody affected!

Good news for Core Decay!
So at least one of the projects in the wake of Slipgate Ironworks / 3DRealms getting 'embracered' will live on.
Not sure if any of the Danish team working on the game will continue doing so, not counting on it though. Afterall I think they were employed by Slipgate. But at least the game will stand a chance of releasing. I think the majority of the game was developed as a solo project by Ivar Hill. Seems like it is in good hands.
Let's hope more projects from the studio will see a chance of releasing.
Some of their projects might end up in 'endless early access' and others (even more sadly) might never release.
EA Projects like:
- Graven (Slipgate project) - Potential endless EA. Also very long EA to mixed reviews. Estimating very low chances of exiting EA.
UPDATE! WHOOOPSIE! It's been officially announced that Graven leaves Early Access January 23rd 2024. According to 3DRealms FB post.
- Ripout (Pet Project Games) seems to be on going as they were only using 3DRealms as publisher. Fair chance of continuation.
- Wrath: Aeon of Ruin (KillPixel) has been in Early Access for a long time. Let's see of the developer manages to pull through.
Update on Wrath/KillPixel: Their Twitter profile states "Creator/Former Developer of WRATH: Aeon of Ruin". So guess it's safe to say the project will not make it out of EA. https://twitter.com/KillPixelGames
Update 2 on Wrath.. kind of contractionary. But spotted a recent FB post from 3DRealms that Wrath will also be released in 2024. Odd that the developers lists themselves as former developers then?! Not sure what's going on there.
But in general it seems like 3DRealms are trying to ship as much as possible to make bank, to save as much as they can given the unfortunate situation.
Super sadly the unreleased Slipgate Ironworks titles might not stand the best chances of ever getting released. But hoping that they do somewhere in the future. Fingers crossed!
- Tempest Rising (Very strong wishlist)
- Phatom Fury (Strong wishlist)
- Combustion (Low/medium wishlist)
- Warpaws (Low/medium wishlist)
- 'Really big unannounced project based on cult movie franchise'
- Twisted Tower (Atmos Games) - Developed by one man army Thomas Brush published by 3DRealms. I take it that it stands good chances of seeing the light of day.
